Webber Online Courses FAQ
Q: Does Webber offer online classes?
A: Yes, a few.
Q: What’s offered this summer?
A: Scroll down; there is a link at the bottom of this Q&A
Q: What does “Nichols Based Course” mean?
A: It means that while it’s a Webber course, it is delivered by Nichols College using their Faculty and their on-line distance education system. While there is email and toll-free telephone support available, the instructor is most likely physically located in Dudley, Massachusetts. Full details are available from your academic planner.
Q: How can I tell a Webber based online course from a Nichols based-on line course from the schedule?
A: Webber based online courses are section D; Nichols based online courses are section N.
Q: Do “Nichols Based Courses” count towards GPA and athletic eligibility? Can I pay for them through Financial Aid?
A: Yes, to the extent that this would be true for on-campus courses. Even though they are led by Nichols instructors and provided on Nichols distance learning infrastructure, they are Webber courses.
Q: Is there, like at other schools, a supplemental (additional) distance learning fee? If so how much is it and why do we have it.
A: Yes, like other schools, there is a supplemental (additional) distance learning fee. It is $50 per credit (which for a 3 credit course would be $150). We have it to help defer the substantial incremental costs involved in providing a distance learning infrastructure.
Q: How will I get the information I need for my on-line class?
A: We will provide it to you through your webber.edu mailbox.
Q: Are online courses “pieces of cake?"
A: Absolutely not. They generally involve more individual work than do traditional courses and require significant time commitments, often more than you would have to invest in an in-person course. Most Nichols based courses require that you earn at least a “C” on your proctored final exam to pass the course.
