Goal

The goal is to provide e-Learning programs to students who are self-motivated and feel comfortable of using computer technology for taking online courses offered at Webber International University.

Objectives

(1) To provide students with full-service distance learning opportunities, including AA and BS degree programs, online admissions, registration, orientation, testing, financial aid and learning resources.
(2) To ensure that all online courses offered at Webber will maintain the academic integrity of the university.

Online Programs

Winter 2009:  Winter Intersession online courses will be offered for students to meet their academic needs and student-athletes who would need to meet eligibility requirements. Two intersessions will be available during the winter break.

Spring 2010: At least 80% of Webber courses will be available online. A full 16-week term and an intense 12-week term will be available to students. Each class will have at least 12 students, otherwise, it will be cancelled.

Summer 2010: At least 80% of Webber courses will be available online for two terms: Term A and Term B. Each term will be 8 weeks. Each class will have at least 12 students, otherwise, it will be cancelled.

Fall 2010: All (100%) Webber courses will be fully available online. A full 16-week term and an intense 12-week term will be available to students. Each class will have at least 12 students, otherwise, it will be cancelled.

Technical Information

Before you enroll in an online course, make sure you have access to a computer and Internet connection that meet the following requirements:

Operating System: Windows 2000 or XP; Mac 10.2 or higher
Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher; Firefox 3.0
Hardware: 256 MB RAM or higher; Sound card (may not be required for some classes)
Internet Connection: Internet Service Provider

How to be prepared as an online student at Webber

• Have a Webber network (and email) account. On the student’s personal computer, setup Internet access to the network Citrix system. Understand the drive structure on the network system for students.

• Know how to log into the Webber email system and regularly check their Webber email – especially on or before the first day of class.

• Sign up for a Moodle account. Register into the Moodle course.

• Complete mandatory online orientation for new e-Learning students, www.webber.edu/e-Learning/orientation prior to the first day of the term.

• Review your course syllabus and course requirements prior to the first day of the term.

• Review the e-Learning Attendance Policy. Log into your class within the first three days to complete the attendance requirement. Log into your class at least 3-5 times a week to stay on course.

• Follow instructions provided by your instructors to keep up class activities.

• Keep regular communication with your instructors.

• When you have questions, concerns, or maybe want a little clarification about an assignment, don’t hesitate to send your instructor an e-mail.

• If you are having difficulties in a class, let the instructor know immediately. Don’t wait until it is too late to ask for help.

• Use your time wisely; set a study schedule for each of your courses and sticks to it. Stay ahead of deadlines.

• Purchase a LiveText account. Learn how to submit assignments.

• Know how to submit assignments to TurnItIn. Understand that plagiarism is not acceptable.

• Have access to tutorial services – an online PASS Center.

• Have access to all online library databases.

• Have access to the online student handbook.

• Know who to contact if having problems with the network system, email, Moodle, LiveText, TurnItIn, etc.
